The Tibet Museum is pleased to announce a year-long free entry to its permanent museum starting 10 March 2013. So far, the Museum has been charging a token fee of Rs. 5 from adult visitors and only children were allowed free entry.

Following the Central Tibetan Administration’s decision to mark 2013 as the “Solidarity With Tibet Campaign Year”, the Tibet Museum will be making its permanent museum open without any fee for all visitors between 10 March 2013 and 10 March 2014. This is in view of expressing solidarity with Tibetans inside Tibet and to inform the global communities about Tibet’s past history, rich cultural heritage, current situation and ongoing rights violation inside Tibet.

The Tibet Museum of the Department of Information and International Relations is located in the main temple complex area, Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala. The Tibet Museum or Demton-khang (in Tibetan) was established on 22 June 1998, to serve as a source of permanent memorial and commemoration site for the Tibetans who have died as a result of the Chinese occupation. The Museum features our main and permanent exhibition titled “A Long Look Homeward”, depicting the result of Chinese occupation of Tibet and the situation inside Tibet—then and now. The Tibet Museum also screens various documentaries on Tibet everyday and also invites experts to discuss issues related to Tibet in the lecture hall of the museum. The museum also installs temporary short-term exhibitions on different topics pertaining to special occasions.

The Tibet Museum also has a photographic archive section, preserving large collection of historic and contemporary images of Tibet that cater to writers, researchers and publication worldwide. The museum’s archive section has a collection of more than 30,000 rare photographs in the form of printed copies, slides and negatives.

The Tibet Museum’s staff also visits schools, settlements, monasteries and other public places in India to showcase photo exhibition related to Tibet’s history, culture and democracy in exile.
