Tibet Museum celebrates International Museum Day

DHARAMSALA, May 18: The Tibet Museum of the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), Central Tibetan Administration located near Tsug-lag-Khang, the main temple in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala today marked the celebration of the 41st International Museum Day.

The celebratory occasion was attended by the Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) Religion and Culture Kalon (Minister) Ven. Karma Gelek Yuthok as the Chief guest along with DIIR’s Secretary (Equivalent) Tenzin Dhardon Sharling Dr Hirday Paul Singh, Secretary General, Sobha Singh Memorial Art Society and Tibet Museum Acting Director, Rinchen Dorjee along with Directors and representative of Tibetan NGOs and students of the Tibetans Children Village.

Kalon Karma Gelek applauded the Tibet Museum’s contribution on promoting Tibet’s culture, religion and the Tibetan struggle through the museum and further highlighted the importance to uphold the vision and guiding principles that were laid down for the celebrating of the International Museum Day.

As the Tibet Museum celebrates the International museum day along with 30,000 museums across 120 countries from every part of the world, Secretary (Equivalent) Tenzin Dhardon Sharling described it as a humble endeavour to ride the international wave of redefining how museum tells their own stories.

Tenzin Dhardon Sharling concluded by emphasizing the power of the museum to inform the present and strengthen the future.

The Tibet Museum has joined forces with museums of Men-Tsee-Khang, Norbulingka, Library of Tibetan Works and Archives and Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts to collectively organised a two-day event at Tsuglagkhang titled ‘Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics’ in sync with the theme of the 41st International Museum Day.
