Traveling exhibition displaying “Journey into Exile” on World Refugee Day.

World Refugee Day is a day to honor the courage and resilience of millions of people around the globe who have been forced to flee war, violence, and persecution. It is also a moment to sound the alarm on their behalf.

Each year, 20 June marks World Refugee Day — an international day to recognize and honor those who have been forced to flee their homes.

At the Tsuklakhang, also known as the Dalai Lama’s Temple, we commemorate a tragic chapter in Tibetan history: the events of 1959, when His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and thousands of Tibetans sought refuge in India. We mark this day as Tibet’s Refugee Day.

The Tibet Museum is dedicated to preserving stories of exile through oral histories and lived memories. Our exhibition highlights Tibetan culture, resistance, and the refugee experience. We amplify Tibetan voices and their ongoing fight for identity and justice through our programs.
