Tibet Museum’s Pictorial Exhibition in Ladakh Garners Significant Turnout

Ladakh: The Tibet Museum, as part of its outreach program, organised a pictorial exhibition in Leh Ladakh City from 21st July to 23rd July 2023, at Shewatsel ground during the auspicious occasion of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s teachings. The museum displayed a pictorial exhibition with the theme ‘A Long Look Homeward,’ which delved into various aspects of Tibet’s history divided into 11 sub-topics, ranging from Tibet’s introduction to the period before the invasion by China, up until the present-day exile situation.

The primary target audience for this outreach program included the local people of Ladakh and Tibetan residents who attended the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The exhibition aimed to provide them with valuable insights into Tibet’s history and the events surrounding the invasion by the People’s Republic of China.

The three-day pictorial exhibition witnessed a significant turnout, with approximately one hundred visitors each day. Attendees had the opportunity to explore and learn about Tibet’s rich history and the implications of the Chinese invasion. The exhibition showcased historical photographs and informative displays, captivating the interest of the attendees.

In addition to the exhibition, the Tibet Museum facilitated the free distribution of books related to Tibet’s history and policies with an aim to provide attendees with additional resources to delve deeper into the subject matter. Furthermore, the museum introduced its new Tibet Museum app, offering visitors a digital platform to access relevant information and resources.

During one of its exhibitions of a book titled ‘Ancient Ties between India and Tibet’,  Lobzang Angchuk attended the event and shared captivating stories and pictures related to his grandfather, Munshi Sonam Tsewang, who was part of the Lobchak party that served as carriers from Leh to Lhasa.

The pictorial exhibition succeeded in generating significant interest among the devotees who attended the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The informative and visually engaging displays left a lasting impact on the attendees, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by Tibetans due to the invasion and subsequent exile. The museum’s efforts in organising a thought-provoking pictorial exhibition were met with enthusiasm from both the local Ladakhi community and the Tibetan residents. The engagement of visitors through book distribution and the introduction of the new Tibet Museum app further enhanced the educational experience. The event left a lasting impression on attendees and played a crucial role in promoting awareness about Tibet’s cultural heritage and history.
