Bringing Tibet Home is a 2013 documentary film directed by Tibetan filmmaker Tenzin Tsetan Choklay and produced by contemporary Tibetan artist Tenzing Rigdol. The film documents Rigdol’s bold and emotional art project, Our Land, Our People, which aimed to reconnect exiled Tibetans with their homeland. It premiered at the 2013 Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and was screened at several international film festivals. At the 22nd Brisbane International Film Festival in Australia, it received a standing ovation from the audience. In 2014, director Tenzin Tsetan Choklay was awarded the Prix du Jury des Jeunes Européens at the 27th FIPA – Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels in Biarritz, France.

The film tells the story of a Tibetan refugee who dies in exile, unable to fulfill his final wish of stepping on his native soil once more. Years later, his son, Tenzing Rigdol, a New York-based artist, sets out on a daring journey to smuggle 20,000 kilograms of Tibetan soil out of the country. Facing obstacles from Chinese authorities, Rigdol’s “Soil Project” becomes a powerful symbol of resistance, love, and identity. Realizing that his father’s longing is shared by countless Tibetans in exile, he transforms his personal loss into a collective mission—bringing a piece of Tibet to those who can no longer return home.
