Tibet Awareness Talk Series
The Tibet Museum, under the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR), organized its bi-monthly Tibet Awareness Talk Series on 7 January 2026. The guest speaker was Mr. Lobsang Sherab, Cartographic Project Advisor, who delivered a lecture on “The Situation of the Entire Tibetan Region during the Ganden Phodrang Period.”
Mr. Lobsang Sherab began by explaining in detail the territorial extent, boundaries, administrative divisions, and political status of the three traditional provinces of Tibet prior to the establishment of the Ganden Phodrang government.
He highlighted that during that period, the vast Tibetan region was under the influence of four major powers. He then discussed the evolution of the region leading to the formation of the Ganden Phodrang government, including the definition of its territorial boundaries and its governance over approximately two million households in the southern regions.
Following the lecture, Mr. Lobsang Sherab addressed questions from the audience. The event concluded with a memento presented by Mr. Tenzin Topdhen, Director of the Tibet Museum, as a token of reverence and appreciation.
Around 30 participants attended the talk, many of whom expressed that they gained a deep understanding not only of the Ganden Phodrang period but also of the broader political and territorial history of Tibet prior to that era.
